We're gearing up for our 1st Duathlon of the year. The race, held on Sunday May 5th, consists of a 1-mile run + a 10-mile bike ride + a 3-mile run.

Moms In Motion - Mission Valley is gearing up for America's Sweetest Race: "The Hot Chocolate 5k". We will be hosting a registration meet and greet on January 19th at 9:00am at Pilates 4 Women Only in North Park (3930 Utah St., San Diego, 92104). Please bring a yoga mat if you can attend. Come check it out and see if Moms In Motion - Mission Valley is a good fit for you. Our very welcoming and supportive group includes women from all fitness levels. This is the last weekend of 2012. Upon reflection, how would you rate this year? Was it a "great year" or a "not so hot year"? What lessons from 2012 will you take along with you on your journey into 2013? How do you plan on ringing in the New Year? I plan on heading to the hills for a day of hiking and basking in the sun.
Regardless of how you celebrate the New Year, remember to be safe, always have fun and vow to make 2013 better and healthier then last year.

I had a great time, with my good friend Lakeita, at the Head To Toe Women's Expo at The Delmar Fairgrounds, this past weekend. It was a blast seeing old friends and meeting new ones. :) Thanks for coming out.

I planned a picnic for Labor Day. I wanted to make something that was healthy, quick and required low to no cooking on a hot summer day. I chose one of my huband's favorite dishe (pictured above) Mango Blueberry Quinoa Salad w/ Lemon Basil Dressing. I tweeked it by adding Salmon fillets (not pictured). For dessert I made Blueberry Icebox Pie (pictured below).
This dish called for cream cheese, condensed milk and butter, for the gram cracker crust. I love tweeking new recipes and making them more healthy so my waistline and hips won't have to pay a heafty price for my big appeitite. I made a condensed milk alternative with almond milk and coconut palm sugar. I swaped out the cream cheese with tofu. Instead of a gram cracker crust and butter, I used oat flour, spices and organic vegetable shortening. Needless to say, this Blueberry Icebox Pie will definitely be added to our list of dessert favorites! This Labor Day picnic, on the beach, as the sun set, was a total success!
